The first female pharaoh, Hatshepsut ruled both Upper and Lower Egypt wearing the Pschent, the white (Upper) and red (Lower) crown representing both regions. She dressed as a traditional pharaoh, including the garb of male rulers and a fake beard and ruled as a man during her reign (perhaps to limit her subjects' fear of a pharaohess). She ordered expeditions in search of ivory, animals, spices, gold and aromatic trees. After 22 years of ruling, she mysteriously disappeared when her nephew claimed his throne as the rightful heir.
